The MSM have nothing to be proud of today. Journalists wear their bias like a cowboy hat.

I seldom run into someone who actually understands these things.

Thank you from a laid-off newspaper editor. I’m still mad and depressed but I like feeling understood.

Matt, I don't understand this: Bouie said "none of us had the capacity to stop DHS from jeopardizing their safety." Huh? How about the students hiring a First Amendment lawyer, or any lawyer, to do so. [There are pro-bono lawyers available.] Legal non-citizens have rights to due process under the Constitution. Does Bouie not know this?

I understand the advice given to students with two months to go before graduation that they should avoid publishing work on Gaza, Ukraine and protests related to their former classmate’s arrest. But other students ? They should not avoid their opinions. They are protected from DHS by the First Amendment. They should be sure they have legal representation to back them up when Trump goes after the others he claims he will do.

It is false to say these journalism students are "operating in authoritarian contexts." Trump is attempting an authoritarian context, but we're not there yet. We still have federal courts ruling against him. I find your statement inflammatory and without foundation.

I’d have agreed with you not so long ago. But the 1st Amendment isn’t doing so great. I’ve warned my husband — a Dutch citizen who is a permanent legal resident with a green card — that he has no freedom of speech right now. We are wary.

We have no freedom of speech when the Supreme Court says so. Until then, your husband should discuss with a lawyer if he's vulnerable and be prepared for being apprehended without due process, which is also his right under the 14th Amendment, until the Supreme Court says otherwise.
