Never heard of that Machiavelli letter but I'm partial to anything Florence-related right now . Two months back after a doctor's appointment I visited the best bookstore in town next door and had to buy something off the used shelf at least. Pressed for time I plucked the 2023 nonfiction novel "Boticelli's Secret" and I found it so worthwhile. Particularly the ending brought this feeling of love that I can't remember experiencing from a novel.

I do not agree with your use of “fantasy” to describe home. I think home is a choice, a commitment to core values and ideas. We can find others who share those values and ideas and clarify and add to them.

This concept should be easier for Americans who live in a country founded on ideas. Unfortunately, it may be easier still to choose tribalism for belonging and lazily subscribe to tribal thinking rather than examining our own souls.
