I think part of the reason I gravitated towards Watch Duty was the complete absence of all the analysis, political context, personal stories, etc. I want that other information, but in a separate feed and on my own time. In the moment I just want to be able to access the latest factual information needed to make decisions.

I'll be curious to see Watch Duty evolve. I think if the subscription offered more granular notification features that could be a good move for them. For example, distinguishing between safety alerts like new evacuation zones vs. an update on when the next press conference will be starting.

I’ve had Watch Duty for awhile but I’m an aficionado. I think a lot of the information the premium versions offer can be gleaned from X/Twitter fire watchers as we’re talking mostly open source information. Overall it’s handy.

Purple Air is definitely my go to for air quality, but it only gets you so much info about wilderness areas. A few years ago I picked the wrong peak and the wrong air quality day and came down with a seriously nasty exposure case.

Thanks for the write-up!
